Answer: This switch should be wired to the ground (black) wire. Power (red) should be routed to the light and the ground (black) from the light should be routed to this switch. The body of the switch is grounded through its mount and completes the circuit when the door opens. -

Is this button soft and how do you connect this? Will the light turn on when I open the door?
Answer: This is spring loaded and is self grounding. You would use a bullet terminal and push it into the tip from your Power source. The light will come on when the door is opened. -

Answer: In as much as it can be, yes. It's a plunger type switch, when the door is closed the end with the 'nail head' on it depresses into the area resembling a bolt head. -
