Blu-ray Editorial Review
Future Man: Season 1 offers a high-energy and entertaining sci-fi comedy experience. The DVD set has improved in quality compared to earlier versions, with missing and duplicated episodes being fixed. The menu navigation allows for easy episode selection, which is important because viewers will likely want to revisit episodes multiple times. The show itself is a delightful blend of genres, taking inspiration from films like "Terminator," "Back to the Future," and "The Last Starfighter." It also pays homage to TV crime shows like "Law & Order" and "Homicide: Life on the Streets" in later episodes. The intriguing sci-fi stories are cleverly infused with humor, creating a compelling and enjoyable combination. The characters are likable, even with their rough edges. The main protagonist, Josh Futterman, along with the future soldiers Tiger and Wolf, are relatable and endearing. The show surprises viewers with the revelation that some seemingly "bad" characters actually have redeeming qualities, while some highly regarded figures from Hollywood are portrayed as truly villainous. "Future Man" also offers thought-provoking themes within its comedic framework. It explores the Consequences of well-intentioned actions and the potential for unintended negative outcomes. While it doesn't take itself too seriously, the show gives viewers something to ponder without being heavy-handed. In terms of technical aspects, the Blu-ray edition lacks subtitles and bonus content. However, fans of the show will find having a physical copy well worth it. Overall, "Future Man: Season 1" is a highly enjoyable and intelligent blend of science fiction and comedy. It provides an engaging storyline, humorous twists, and memorable characters, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre.
