Vintage Children's Classics: Good Wives is a charming sequel to Little Women. It starts three years later with Meg March getting married and her younger sisters maturing in their unique ways. The character development in each chapter is impressive, and the girls' distinct personalities shine through in modern ways as they learn to deal with their faults and problems. The author's intrusions may seem like a cliche for the period, but they are written with a little tongue-in-cheek. Despite being nearly 150 years old, the novel features gentle, low-key love stories, some humor, and a very sad, though inevitable chapter towards the end. It is an excellent book recommended to anyone who has read the first book.
