This Ethernet Shield W5100 is a cheaper alternative to the official Ethernet Shield for Arduino, but there are mixed reviews about its reliability. A customer had issues with the shield losing Ethernet connection and pinned it down to incorrect resistors. Though a few customers were able to prototype an Ethernet micro-server that remotely controls many devices on the local sub-net. However, the shield pins were slightly bent when delivered to a customer, and production quality wasn't great for other customers due to the off-center power and USB connectors. A customer falsely assumed compatibility with the Mega2560 IDE, despite it being stated in the title of the product, hence hinting at the need for close attention to detail. The Mac Address is assigned through initializing the configuration of the code.
