What is the B & K 164-104 PVC SCH 80 Threaded Union used for?

The B & K 164-104 PVC SCH 80 Threaded Union is primarily used to connect two sections of PVC piping while allowing for easy disassembly. This feature is particularly useful in plumbing applications where future modifications or repairs may be necessary. Its strong, durable construction is designed for high-pressure systems, making it ideal for water supply lines and irrigation setups.

What are the applications of PVC SCH 80 fittings?

PVC SCH 80 fittings, like the B & K 164-104, are commonly used in industrial and plumbing applications due to their ability to withstand higher pressures compared to schedule 40 fittings. They are perfect for transporting water or chemicals and are often utilized in swimming pools, aquariums, and even for drainage systems. Their corrosion resistance makes them a preferred choice for long-lasting installations.

How do I install the B & K 164-104 PVC Threaded Union?

Installing the B & K 164-104 PVC Threaded Union involves cutting the PVC pipes to the required lengths, deburring the edges, and applying PVC primer and cement to the ends before connecting. Once the cement is applied, quickly thread the union onto the pipe fittings to create a strong seal. This process ensures that the union provides a reliable and leak-proof connection, maintaining the integrity of your plumbing system.

Can the PVC Threaded Union be used with other types of materials?

The B & K 164-104 PVC Threaded Union is specifically designed for use with PVC pipes. While it’s generally not advisable to mix materials such as metal with PVC without proper adapters, this union will work seamlessly with other PVC materials. For best results, ensure that all connecting components are made from compatible materials to prevent leaks and ensure safety.

What size threading does the B & K 164-104 feature?

The B & K 164-104 PVC SCH 80 Threaded Union features a 3/4 inch threaded connection. This universal size allows for straightforward compatibility with most standard 3/4 inch PVC pipes. Choosing the right size is crucial for ensuring a secure fit and avoiding leaks, especially in high-pressure applications where durability is paramount.

Is the B & K 164-104 suitable for underground installations?

Yes, the B & K 164-104 PVC SCH 80 Threaded Union is suitable for underground installations. Its robust construction ensures that it can handle the soil pressures and moisture conditions typically found in underground environments. However, it is essential to install it properly and use quality sealing techniques to prevent potential leaks over time.

Does the PVC Threaded Union require any special maintenance?

The B & K 164-104 PVC SCH 80 Threaded Union generally requires minimal maintenance. Regular inspections for signs of wear and tear are recommended, especially in high-use systems. Ensure that joint connections are tight and free from leaks. In case of any issues, the union can easily be disassembled for repairs and replaced without much hassle.

What temperatures can the B & K 164-104 withstand?

The B & K 164-104 PVC SCH 80 Threaded Union is designed to withstand temperatures up to 140°F (60°C). This temperature tolerance makes it suitable for a wide variety of applications, including hot water systems. However, exceeding this temperature may compromise the material integrity, so always check specifications for optimal performance.
